YASSSSSSSSSSSS, I finally am holding this palette in my hands! I’ll be honest with you, I thought at one stage, we’d never get hold of it in the UK! Do you know how many times I saw this palette all over instagram and You Tube and cried because I needed it in my life?! About THREE MONTHS after being released in US, FINALLY Beauty Bay finally came through and launched it. After a few website crashes and a terrible queuing system, I managed to get my hands on it! I’ve had it for a couple of weeks now so I’ve had plenty of time to play around with it and to give you the verdict. Swatches, photos, more photos and just generally lots of love below!
Beautiful ♥ |
So I’m sure you will all agree, this palette is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. The pristine luxurious white and chrome packaging, totally different to the matte black we’ve come to know and love by Morphe! I have to say, the card interior of the palette isn’t the easiest to keep clean, I discovered this just when I was swatching! This has since been addressed by Jaclyn and Morphe following their ‘rebrand’ and launch in Ulta, and all new palettes made will be in the plastic exterior we’re used to! I hope they keep the colour scheme though! I knew it would be breath taking though, it’s Jaclyn Hill after all!
Jaclyn Hill was the first beauty guru I watched on You Tube and she is part of what inspired me to pursue something I love. Blogging, collecting and reviewing make mp, practicing the art of makeup through tutorials and clients… none of these things were ever career options or hobbies discussed during those long sessions in school. ” When I grow up I want to be… ” Truth is, I never knew the answer to this statement, and to be honest I still don’t but for now, this is something I’m doing in my spare time and I love it!
The Jaclyn Hill Palette ♥ |
A little off subject I know but before we get into the review, I just want to say that I feel like everyone should cut Jaclyn Hill some slack. Instead we should be applauding her for her stance within the beauty community and everything that she has achieved. I certainly do! I know the ‘rath’ of social media comes with the territory of being an influencer but it’s such a shame when you take time to read the hate laced amongst the flurry of admiration on her posts and videos. I for one admire her, and I honestly believe she is as genuine as she comes across in her videos. That aside, she’s gorgeous, talented and trust worthy. Anything she recommends in her monthly favourites, I have to buy it! She introduced me to Morphe (palettes and brushes), Marc Jacobs coconut glow range, Dior Forever skin foundation and Stila magnificent metals to name a few! I’m yet to try something that she’s raved about on her channel and hate it!
Packaging Goals ♥ |
Anyway, this palette is the end result of a two year long project between Jaclyn and Linda at Morphe. I am a MASSIVE fan of the Morphe 35 pan palettes, I have every single one so far apart from the 35O2 (I’m coming for you!) but this one has certainly jumped to the top of my favourites list. If you’ve followed Jaclyn on social media and watched her channel for a while, the colour selection in the palette shouldn’t of surprised you. It certainly was no surprise to me. It was everything I expected it to be and more! A mix of warm and cool neutrals, with pops of rich metallic colour… it’s literally eye shadow heaven.
Swatches – Top Row ♥ |
So, I’ll quickly run through swatches of the palette, row by row, just so you can see the pay off and I can drool over any shades that really stood out for me! To be honest, the whole top row is absolutely stunning, just look at ‘Enlight’ and ‘Beam’, two beautiful highlight shades, both satin, ‘Beam’ has a slight yellow undertone, more like an ivory as opposed to ‘Enlight’ which is more of a frosty off white but still beautifully neutral and perfect to highlight that inner corner or brow bone! ‘Silk Creme’ and ‘M.F.E.O’ (Made For Each Other) are literally the most perfect matte transition shades. ‘Faint’, ‘Sissy’ and ‘Little Lady’ are the first of a gorgeous selection of shimmers. I will say that in my opinion ‘Sissy’ is veryyyy similar to the cult favourite duo chrome shade ‘Angelic’ featured in both of Huda’s palettes! ‘Faint’ is a beautiful icy baby pink, ‘Little Lady’, a gorgeous rose gold shimmer.
Swatches – Row 2 ♥ |
Moving on to the second row in the palette, as you can see, this is perfect for those of us who love our warm tone shades! First up is ‘Creamsicle’, a buttery matte mustard yellow, followed by ‘Butter’, a more orange toned neutral matte shade. Next up, ‘Pooter’ and ‘Pukey’, two perfect warm brown tones next to ‘Hunts’ a rich deep red toned matte brown, with hints of darker terrocotta, followed by two more vibrant pigmented shimmers. ‘Firework’ is a firey warm vivid metallic bronze toned copper and ‘Queen’ is the perfect warm foil gold.
Swatches – Row 3 ♥ |
Third row – Starting off with a few shimmer shades this times, we have ‘Obsessed’ – it looks similar to ‘Faint’ but when you look closely, it’s more of a champagne pink as opposed to the additional baby pink tone of ‘Faint’. Next up is ‘S.B.N’ (Smokey But Natural), supposedly the perfect muted traditional copper shimmer to add to any smokey look to keep it natural but smokey all over the lid. This is followed by a cream shimmer called ‘Hillster’, a deep rich burnt copper dedicated to all of Jaclyn’s subscribers and followers. It is crazy pigmented! ‘Roxanne’ is a dark burnt earthy/slightly orange matte brown, and ‘Jacz’ – a dark burnt red shade. ‘Buns’ is a slightly more neutral fudge/milk , followed by ‘Cranapple’, the perfect shimmery metallic red.
Swatches – Row 4 ♥ |
Now we’re moving onto the fourth row, which contains some slightly more cool toned neutrals, combined with two perfect pops of colour. First up are two beautiful colours, the most perfect purple ‘Royalty’, which is actually a pressed glitter as it contains flecks of silver glitter in it. I’m a sucker for Purple and this is s t u n n i n g. Next up is ‘Twerk’, close to a royal blue but it contains a purple undertone. ‘Hustle’ is one of the few cool toned shimmers in the palette, a neutral grey with a slight lilac undertone. ‘Meeks’ is a beautiful warm brown infused with bronze shimmer, followed by another pressed glitter, this time a slightly darker chocolate brown. Last in the row are too matte browns, ‘Chip’ – a cool toned brown with purple undertones and ‘Mocha’, a fudge brown.
Swatches – Row 5 ♥ |
So, the final row in the palette, containing some of the colours that I was most excited about when I first saw the previews! Obviously the first colour ‘Pool Party’ is a duo chrome shimmer, part turquoise/aqua blue, part gold. ‘Jada’ is a turquoise matte, followed by a foil shimmer infused with glitter, ‘Diva’ is a neutral metallic ‘green’. I have to say, when I swatched ‘Diva’ I was amazed as greens can verge on being too lime green, too olive green or too Christmassy green but this is perfect! To me it does have slight golden olive undertones in the glitter but I love it! Next, the complimentary matte green shade ‘Enchanted’. The last three colours are all cool toned mattes, ‘Central Park’ a coffee like dark brown, ‘Soda Pop’ a dark black/purple and lastly ‘Abyss’ – a perfect creamy black.
35 perfect colours ♥ |
So there you have it! I was seriously so impressed with the colour pay off, limited fall out and general pigmentation of every single colour in this palette. The mattes are buttery and blendable, and the shimmers are simply every girl’s dream.
I purchased this palette from Beauty Bay for £37 – a slightly higher price than the usual £22 mark we’ve come to expect from Morphe for their 35 pan palettes but as Jaclyn explained, due to the variety of shadow textures and subsequently the production of this palette, it is slightly pricier. Definitely worth every penny though in my opinion!!!
A must have for any make up love, a perfect Christmas gift and a collector’s dream. I’ve not seen/read anywhere that this is a limited edition palette (I hope not!). Instead it’s availability is affected solely by demand, the same as the rest of the highly coveted Morphe palettes. It is in stock now on Beauty Bay so if you haven’t already and I’ve tempted you, definitely head on over and treat yourself!
