Marc Jacobs Beauty – Coconut Glow Collection
14/10/2018Marc Jacobs is a fairly new makeup brand to join my collection, my first ever purchases being the coconut fine mist setting spray and primer last year. I’m a huge fan of Marc Jacobs fragrances, Daisy, Daisy Dream and Honey are part of my every day routine. Since then, my collection and obsession with the brand has grown! The Coconut Glow collection got a makeover for this summer with Rose Gold detailing on the packaging as well as new additions to the line and I have been living for it! Below i’ll run through which bits I picked up from the collection and my thoughts on each of the products.
Marc Jacobs collection ♥ |
So we’ve just been graced with the news that Marc Jacobs beauty will be staying accessible to those of us in the UK and will be launching at Harvey Nichols soon! I had to admit, when I saw they were pulling out of Harrods and John Lewis I was a tad worried! Safe to say Harvey Nichols is a better fit for me! I know they were on Net a Porter and didn’t appear to be going anywhere but it’s a reassuring step all the same!
So along with all the products pictured above, as mentioned I do own several fragrances from Marc Jacobs as well as two of their blushers. I’ll start with the products that were launched a year ago and then move on to the newer launches this year!
First Marc Jacobs Beauty purchases ♥ |
First up, the RE(COVER) perfecting coconut setting mist, the UNDER(COVER) perfecting coconut face primer and the DEW DROPS coconut gel highlighter in ‘Dew You?’. I picked all three of these up from the Marc Jacobs counter at John Lewis, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. Starting with the setting mist, I am literally obsessed with this. All three products have the same heavenly coconut milk-like scent and are housed in beautiful white/chrome bottles with thick set glass bottles.
When I first went to the counter and spoke to the team at the Marc Jacobs counter, the thing that capture my attention the most was the demonstration of the setting mist. If you’re a beauty blogger or make up lover, you probably understand the annoyance from trying a load of different setting sprays and suffering the ‘water gun effect’. Not the best thing to happen if you’ve just done your makeup and then end up with water droplets all over your face! This spray bottle comes equipped with a nozzle designed to be pressed and held to release a fine mist spritz… and that’s exactly what it does! It’s the only bottle I have that achieves the mist effect perfectly and I have a LOT of settings sprays! I love to use this by press and holding the nozzle while spraying in upward and downward motions. It is beautifully refreshing and sets your makeup in place perfectly, leaving you feeling hydrated and smelling amazing! I took this away with me for two weeks to Lanzarote and came back completely obsessed. I’ve already gone through one bottle of this, I’m on my second and have a third put away as a back up!
Moving on to the primer, everyone was so obsessed with the Too Faced Hang Over primer first came out, a light weight, water based primer, perfect for keeping your skin hydrated and moisturised. This primer is no different, and actually I now reach for this one over the TF Hangover Primer! Again it smells absolutely amazing and literally just feels like a light weight moisturiser, leaving your skin feeling so soft and refreshed. Personally I love the effect of this on the skin with the dew drops blended on top before applying my foundation! The dew drops are blinding literally, and the colour is that perfect champagne gold that I always end up reaching for in any form of highlight!
Net-a-Porter Haul ♥ |
When Net-A-Porter.com announced that they would be launching the 2018 take on the Marc Jacobs coconut glow collection I knew I had to get my hands on the Omega Bronzer in ‘Tan-Tastic!’, and new ‘Fantasy’ Dew Drops as a minimum, that was before I saw the limited edition Eye-Conic palette in ‘Fantascene’ and couldn’t resist. This often happens to me with collection launches, I kid myself I’m only going to get one or two bits and end up purchasing practically the whole collection!
Swatches ♥ |
Let’s start with the ‘Fantascene’ palette from the Eye-Conic range. As you can see from the swatches, the pigment of both the matte and the shimmer shades is insane. Personally I couldn’t get over how buttery the matte shades were, that’s how I tell the difference between a high-end (high quality) and ones that aren’t. Pigmented metallic shimmers always seem to be consistent across most brands but personally, I find the matte shades the tell-tell signs. I would expect nothing less from Marc Jacobs and they definitely did not disappoint with this pallets. My favourite shade from the palette is obviously the golden orange copper shade ‘Meet Ya’! All of the colours in the palette compliment each other perfectly and it really is a beautiful all round palette with major summer sunset vibessss.
Summer 2018 ♥ |
So moving on to the Omega Bronzer in ‘Tan-Tastic!’, you have no idea how much of a panic I was in the morning this launched just because I knew I’d literally have seconds to get my hands on it. Sure enough straight after placing my order it went out of stock on the site and hasn’t come back since!! They’ve since relaunched the shade as part of the permanent collection in the original white and chrome packaging but as a Rose Gold fanatic you know I HAD to get my hands on this version! I have to be honest, I’ve used this soooo sparingly since I bought it as I’m waiting to get it from the permanent collection to use it properly!
As with the Dew Drops in ‘Dew You?’, ‘Fantasy’ hit the nail on the head in terms of molten Rose Gold in a bottle, I am SO obsessed. Again I reach for the original drops daily (you know I have a back up) so I’m waiting to see if they keep this shade around permanently at some point too!!
Collection Goals ♥ |
Since then, I also added to Coconut setting powder, the Re(Marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate, two of the Air Blush soft glow duo blushers in ‘Lines & Last Night’, ‘Kinks & Kisses’ and the obsession is real!
Setting Powders for dayssss ♥ |
The Coconut setting powder is also part of the coconut collection so it has the same tantalising smell. The powder itself is classed as a ‘translucent’ powder, and has a neutral undertone to it as opposed to the harsh whiteness of some others on the market. I’ve been using the setting powder as part of my weekly rotation of products for several weeks now and can honestly hold it’s own against my other current favourites.
Blush ♥ |
As you can see from the photo above, the two soft focus blush compacts are absolutely stunning. The sleek chic black pebble packaging with chrome accents is something we’ve come to expect from Marc Jacobs Beauty and honestly, they produce some of my favourite packaging! I’m usually a mauve pink/medium coral blush toned kind of gal, I don’t like anything too vibrant and often opt for a flush of colour rather than pigment so these are perfect with the lighter blends!
Have any of you bought anything recently from Marc Jacobs Beauty? What are your thoughts on Marc Jacobs leaving John Lewis and joining Harvey Nichols instead? What are your thoughts on the Coconut Glow collection?
