So for my first official ‘product review blog post’, I thought I’d share my thoughts on the Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Rose Gold Palette because I haven’t shut up about it! If you follow my instagram you’ll already be aware of my obsession with this palette and the brand ‘Huda Beauty’ as a whole. The Kattan sisters, their makeup line, their social media presence, even their packaging. Everything is literally my own personal definition of ‘perfection’. I’m not quite sure what it is about this brand that is so appealing but I’ll try and put together a thought trail in this post and come to my own conclusion.
When I spotted that they were launching a new palette ‘Desert Desk‘ I was beyond excited. Of course the main question was could this new palette follow the standards set by Huda with the Rose Gold palette? I won’t be able to confirm until at least the 18th September IF I manage to get hold of it on the initial launch!
Textured Shadows Palette – Rose Gold Edition ♥ |
Anyway, back to the Rose Gold palette. As I briefly mentioned in my where it all began blog post, I literally went to the ends of the earth to get this palette, or so it felt like that at the time! The hype surrounding this palette in Summer 2016 was insane. For me, it was one of the most highly anticipated products of last year, you couldn’t open Instagram or Facebook without catching a glimpse of the black and rose gold 18 pan palette and Huda’s iconic eyes staring back at you.
Now don’t get me wrong. £56 was the highest amount of money I’d paid for any eye shadow palette before at the time. Only now, one year later can I say that I own a palette priced higher than this palette and that is the Violet Voss ‘Ride or Die’ palette. Most consumers and probably some of you will point out that the Ride or Die palette offers much better value for money in terms of product quantity and weight. 42 colours x 1.8g pans vs Huda’s 18x1g pans… I see the point and I get it BUT that still doesn’t sway my opinion on this palette.
I’d personally argue that Huda Beauty set their prices in correlation with their choice of retailers and target consumer market. I can’t speak for America, but in the UK, us Hudaholics can only purchase her makeup from Harrods, Selfridges and Cult Beauty. I get it though, we all love makeup and we all go to work to earn money to buy more makeup. It’s a viscous addictive circle but I can certainly say that I love it. I wouldn’t be writing this post if I didn’t! I’ve got no loyalty to Huda Beauty as a brand in the sense that they’re not sponsoring me for this post or in any way swaying my opinion, I simply love the brand and their products!
Swatches ♥ |
As you can see from the above swatches, the palette boasts so much pigment and is still to date, the only palette I own that offers such a unique variety in terms of colours and textures in one palette. Up until purchasing this palette, I’d never used a foil shadow in my life. Again, touching on another subject of controversy, some attempted to brand the palette as not being ‘user-friendly’. I don’t know about everyone else but before I buy anything, I genuinely do a little bit of research. Being a beauty blogger, I have access to plenty of fellow bloggers and influencers who can offer hints, tips and tricks on new product launches as well as solid ‘tried and tested’ opinions. I’d anticipated that the top row of foil shadows would be highly pigmented, richer than any shimmer, metallic or glitter shadow I owned and not very brush friendly. So I used my finger! And guess what? It applied like an absolute dream. The results were simply stunning.
Palette Heaven ♥ |
I know I’ve mentioned this in my Desert Dusk post but I’m so happy they’ve decided to continue the Duo-Chrome shade ‘Angelic’ from the Rose Gold palette in the new ‘Desert Dusk’ palette. This one shade created something that no other eye shadow I owned could replicate. A perfect baby pink with champagne gold shimmery hues… sounds like absolute perfection doesn’t it? Trust me, it is.
Huda has finally confirmed that this beautiful palette will sadly be discontinued in October this year once all retailers globally sell out of stock. Cult Beauty and Harrods definitely have this in stock online at the moment and I believe (don’t quote me on this) that Selfridges are possibly due one more restock. I’ve thankfully already purchased my ‘back up’ palette as photographed for this post so I should be okay! 24K, #Blessed, Moondust and Rose Gold are among the shades that will definitely be missed!
