Welcome to the home of ‘beautyblog_shan’! I really hope this page can give you an insight as to who I am and the inspiration fuelling this blog and my work!

In a nutshell, ‘beautyblog_shan’ ultimately reflects more than one passion of mine, the ultimate one being makeup. After all, I’m just a girl. Like so many others out there I’ve fallen privy to the intoxicating industry that is the world of beauty. The glitter, the shimmer, the pretty packaging, the full colour spectrum available, the pastels, the mattes, the brands themselves. I’m like a bear to a honey pot. I just can’t get enough!

I also love writing. Creative writing, informative writing, narrative writing, travel writing, I’ll give it a go and I’ll enjoy it thoroughly. I’d convinced myself that I wouldn’t have time for a blog with all my other social media accounts but I plan on making it work!

I’m hoping this blog will help me keep track of my thoughts, whilst also allowing me to capture my enthusiasm for makeup. This should also go hand in hand with my passion for writing. I’ve always loved English, at GCSE and A Level it was my favourite subject and it’s definitely the subject I miss the most, closely followed by art. Pursuing makeup has allowed me to curb some of my longing to artistically engage in a creative project, and I’m hoping blogging will have a similar outcome. I will be updating my blog with posts relating to everything and anything: new make up products; product purchases; product reviews; payday wish lists; tutorials and client work. All with a little element of my personal life thrown in to keep it just that. Personal.

This ‘Project’

Okay, so for those of you who have been following me for a while now, you’ll know some time ago I made the decision to start investing in myself and began a new hobby, combining two past times I love. I’ve always loved creative writing, English Language/Literature was probably the only subject I ever considered studying at University! I’ve also always loved art, capturing a moment and artistically recreating it in any form possible. Makeup to me isn’t that different to the techniques required to paint/sketch, so why not combine the two and embark on a journey to become a beauty blogger. Over the last two years I have been working on my instagram page @beautyblog_shan, attempting to build a following within the community and reach out to those who celebrate new makeup releases, enjoy reading reviews and love makeup flatlays!

There’s something indescribably satisfying when you achieve the perfect intricately blended eye colour combination before a special occasion or a night out. There’s nothing more thrilling than purchasing a new product from your favourite cosmetic brand’s new seasonal collection. There’s definitely nothing more exciting than purchasing a new makeup brush set and using a new brush for the first time. If you love make up as much as I do, I’m sure that you will agree!

It suddenly dawned on me that I could make better use of my creative skills and pursue a hobby I am passionate about at the same time. First thing’s first, I decided to begin replenishing my makeup collection by replacing everything with high end luxury beauty products. My intention was and still is to share, to teach, and to provide honest unbiased reviews to you guys, my audience. I have so many friends who regularly compliment me on my make up and ask me for advice and recommendations, so why not? I strongly believe that anyone willing to pay for a makeup session wants to be pampered. They want access to the best products available and a skilled individual who is able to get the most out of those products. It’s also a treat to try new products, especially those they may not own themselves.

I’ve been avidly watching make up tutorials for months to curb my technique and have been practicing application wherever possible, both on myself and friends. I’ve also learnt a lot about the art of photography – more specifically lighting, editing, backgrounds and product placement! I’ve enjoyed my journey immensely so far and continue to invest in both my makeup collection and photography equipment to make my photos look as beautiful as I can! The best thing about the beauty community is there will always be more to learn, more products launching, new makeup trends and new brands!
